June 2025 Industry Update: Flatbed
Despite softening flatbed shipping activity, average flatbed rates registered slightly higher in May.
Spot Rates
Key Points
- The national average flatbed spot rate, excluding fuel, registered 1.6% higher MoM in May, or just over $0.03, to $2.14.
- Annual comparisons of average flatbed spot linehaul rates reflected a 6.7% increase YoY compared to May 2024 and were 3.3% above the LT average.
- Initially reported average flatbed contract linehaul rates were virtually flat MoM in May but were up 1.3% YoY compared to the same month last year.
Load-to-Truck Ratio

- The flatbed LTR declined 8.6% MoM, dropping from 35.28 in April to 32.25 in May.
- Compared to May 2024, the flatbed LTR is up 79.5% YoY but sits 21.8% below the 5-year average.
- Both load post volumes and equipment posts for flatbeds were down in May, dropping by 10.1% and 1.6%, respectively, according to DAT.
